Hi! My name is Alex Wickson and I am about to tell you about me. I am a writer, artist, and graphic designer, as well as a human person, a man, an individual, and a thing.
To be clear, the following are things about me, not things that are about me in the sense that they are orbiting my person. That is a much shorter list that includes nothing (I’ve not earned my own gravitational pull, damn it! It’s a work in progress).Abound, around, astound, and Yarnmouth are some other words I can think of that have only the vowels a, o, and u in that order. Though perhaps about is the only one without an n. Upon further research — aloud, afoul, bayou, Falmouth, Yarmouth does not have an n, amour(?), armour(!)... But this is not the Falmouth page, or any other aou for that matter. This is the about page. Get on with it.
Dear Reader this rambling is not without purpose. It is, in fact, the entire point!! You may find a double exclamation mark unwriterly, but that too is the point. You could say I’m all about that. Do you get it? I’m really sorry about this if you’re in a mood. I am from Oxford. My birthday is the 19th of May 2004.
I am not telling you my blood type because I do not know it.
I want my work to be enjoyed by anyone in any way they can enjoy it, or any way they can enjoy enjoying it. It is most important to me that my work is welcoming, friendly, and witty.
Mostly it’s about words. I suppose that’s not exactly true really. It’s about lots of things. I’m not going to pretend it’s about one thing. But words come up a lot. I find great purpose in involving myself with the transformative human culture of storytelling.
I’m personally fascinated by linguistics, behaviour, folklore, people, interaction, collaboration, the mundane, the unravelled. I like recontextualising or creating narrative. I like to create a catalyst to encourage people to think about things in any way. Anyway.
It’s often monochrome apparently, but
it's not elitist, black & white, cigarette-smoking frenchman-talk. It's play. It's creative impulse. It's surrealism. And sometimes it has something to say. I did not manage to get the word about in this part. Is that cheating?
At the end of the day though, like, when all is said and done, like, when the dust settles, like, another idiom, what I’m about isn’t really up to me is it?
Maybe I was just supposed to put my publicly available personal information here. But I already told you where I’m from, and I don’t know my blood type. It’s up to you to decide what my work is about, if a throughline jumps out at you or not. As far as I’m concerned, the idea of it is for it to mean anything at all.
tl;dr: dunno mate~Alex
